Last week, when leaving the radiology dept of the hospital with a sticker and a new rubber duck, I was so proud of how M dealt with the not so invasive sonogram. The people were nice enough to lead him to ask when we could come back.
Today we returned for a renal scan (this is all follow-up stuff to a surgery he had at a year and a half to reinsert the tubes into his kidneys). He had to be sedated. I know, "da da da dan da dah da da dan I wanna be sedated" has been running through my head. It was actually quite frightening to me, especially because of how I lost my mom after a routine surgery on her back for a herniated disc. Now, seeing his puffy face or not seeing him respond is the craziest thing, but I got over the fear and did it. He was a champ as I held the mask over his face--he fought it. He struggled as he woke up as well and tried to pull out the IV. I got to ride with him on the bed on wheels.
His fascination with numbers and elevators was both fun and challenging as he was reviving from the after effects of the anesthesia. We had the rest of the day together laying low. He has a new obsession for expensive smooshed fruit rolled up.
I may go to Canada in a few weeks for a reconceptualizing early childhood conference. If it works out, I will be presenting work with a few people I have been researching with.
